The territory during the period between the Early and the Late Middle Ages

According to a close examination of the documentary sources, during the Giudicati kingdom period the territory of Ittireddu can be ascribed to the Curatoria of Ardara-Oppia from about the second half of the 11th century until the first half of the 14th century. The present curatoria included the territories of Ardara, Mores, Ittireddu and later reunited with the Curatoria of Meilogu which extended to the territories of Terralba (except Cabuabbas), Borutta, Siligo and Banari (except Santa Maria di Cea).

The non-peripheral position relative to the Roman road system (which was still in use during the Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages) suggests the presence of two Byzantine religious buildings along a road that starting from Pont’Ezzu climbed towards Monte Zuighe passing close to the Churches of San’Elena and Santa Croce.
